For qualified families, the state of California offers a program called In-Home Supportive Service (IHSS), which pays an individual caregiver to stay home and care for a developmentally disabled child.

IHSS Services provides as:

1. In-Home Supportive Services are provided by independent providers/caregivers.
2. The IHSS recipient is considered the employer of his/her caregiver and is responsible for hiring, supervising and, if necessary, dismissing the provider.

Ihss Protective Supervision  Protective Supervision is part of the In-Home Support Services (IHSS) program in California, which are services paid for by state governments to help keep children who are disabled to safely remain at home with their parents.
